CULTIVATING TECHNIQUE, EXPRESSION, AND A LIFELONG LOVE OF MUSIC.
Private Music Instruction
Music is more than just notes on a page; it is a powerful form of personal expression. As an educator with over a decade of teaching experience, my mission is to help students build a solid music foundation while discovering their own unique voice within the melody.
In my studio, we focus heavily on correct technique, tone quality, and confident stage presence. I firmly believe that music should be a fulfilling, creative outlet whether that’s exploring classical masterpieces, traditional folk tunes, or modern popular selections. Lessons are tailored to each student's unique musical journey with music theory and history integrated along the way.
The Studio Experience
INSPIRING CREATIVITY, CONFIDENCE, AND MUSICAL FUN.
While technical excellence is our foundation, music lessons should be an inspiring and joyful highlight of a student's week! My teaching philosophy centers on making the learning process interactive, engaging, and highly rewarding:
Interactive Learning: For our youngest musicians, we bring music to life using fun music theory games, sticker charts, a rewarding point/prize system, and even playful finger puppet mascots to help navigate certain pieces.
Curriculum: Piano students learn using the acclaimed Faber Piano Adventures method, while harp students train using the renowned Salzedo method paired with entirely customized lesson plans to ensure a well-rounded and structured approach to reading and technique.
More Than Just Lessons: Education extends beyond weekly lessons through tri-annual themed recitals and regular community performances at local assisted living facilities. Additionally, every summer the studio dives into a specialized music history unit. Past topics include Classical Composers, The Beatles, and John Williams’ film scores. This summer, students are exploring Instrument Families. We’ll be learning how instruments are made, identifying their sounds, and participating in a hands-on day to examine instrument mechanics up close.
Studio Offerings & Lesson Formats
Instruction is open to students of all ages, tailored to support each individual at their specific stage of musical development:
Harp: Levels range from beginner to advanced intermediate.
Piano: Levels range from beginner to intermediate.
Lesson Lengths: Weekly lessons are offered in 30-minute, 45-minute, and 60-minute time slots with 30 minutes being the recommended length for beginners.
Experience
With 25 years of piano experience, 18 years of harp experience, multiple degrees in music performance, and over ten years as a private instructor, I have spent my career guiding a thriving community of over a hundred studio students toward their musical goals. My students perform widely across their communities, successfully place in the prestigious Illinois Music Education Association (ILMEA) auditions, and excel in regional competitions.
My pedagogical background includes:
Director of Private Studio: Plainfield, IL (Present)
Former Faculty Member: Fox River Academy of Music & Art (Oswego, IL), teaching for 5 years before fully launching my independent studio
Former Head of the Harp Department: Northern Illinois University Community School of the Arts (2016–2019)
TESTIMONIAL"My daughter just started piano lessons with Lauren a couple of months ago and I couldn’t recommend her enough! She makes learning fun, incorporates games, and gives incentives for practicing. I just found my daughter today practicing on her own without me having to ask or remind her. Lauren does a great job encouraging and helping build confidence. My daughter looks forward to going and learning more each week!"—Samantha Marroquin
